Often confusing to new visitors, west Sacramento is its own city, separate from Sacramento, across Interstate 5 and the Sacramento River. West Sacramento is home to Sutter Health Park, home of the Sacramento river cats, the AAA affiliate of the San Francisco giants. West Sacramento is a growing area and even has areas with new construction, a rarity in the region.

Just blocks back from the waterfront is a burgeoning cluster of restaurants and bars, and several breweries, such as jackrabbit and bike dog, are just down the river. Retail giants like Ikea anchor shopping centers just off interstate 80 that have many food options and other shopping choices.
